Who Is Kimyatta

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Criminology from thee illustrious Howard University.

Born and raised in the Bay Area (Oakland & Richmond mostly) of California. I am the second child of four. I attended high school & college in Richmond, California, Middle College High School which was a dual enrollment school. Throughout high school, I was a member of the San Pablo Youth Commission. We were the bridge between the youth and San Pablo City Council. I was in 6-8 clubs/extracurriculars such as dance, Black Student Union, Leadership, and more.

I graduated at 17 years old with an AA in STEM in May 2020.

I was accepted into my dream school (HU). However, due to COVID I remained home and attended HU virtually while continuing to keep my hands in several pots to strengthen my skills and pursue opportunities and by Jan. 2021 I was awarded Humanitarian of the Year in my county.

Throughout my Howard U career, I was a member of CASCADE an LGBTQ club at Howard and the Balans (vice president) turned executive board member of the Kwame Ture Society an org that promotes the decolonization of the Black mind through educating one another, studying Black classics and theory and organizing. I was also an Investigative Reporter for the Hilltop and currently still working on two investigative stories.

With the support of my family across the country I was able to complete my undergraduate studies at Howard by the age of 20 years old.

I'm currently pursuing a career in political journalism, newsroom work or political endeavors.

As I take on opportunities I am continuing to educate and decolonize myself while celebrating Black voices of all identities across the diaspora.

Nice to meet you!
